Talk about bad timing.
It looks like the ficathon (that I completely missed) finished today. Everybody's posting stories.
Gaaahhh.

I'm looking for a job, so I *don't* have the time to read fanfic.
Well, I opened [livejournal.com profile] destina's one. Just because... my mouse slipped. Yups, it was a computer glitch.

I read the beginning. Daniel's on a planet with a team of scientists. Setting: the jungle. Shit hits the fan. Jack sees one very damaged guy.
I'm writing a story, where... Daniel's on a planet with a team of scientists. Setting: the jungle. Shit hits the fan, and Jack sees one very dead guy.

Our stories are probably very different; still, I won't read hers until I've finished writing mine. I don't want to unwittingly plagiarase her work.

I suppose I'll just have to write faster...

Oh, your mouse does that too? I thought I was the only one with a wayward mouse.

Are these gen fics by any chance? I know a lot of great writers write slash but I just don't see Jack and Daniel that way.

It sounds like mice are naturally naughty!

[livejournal.com profile] destina's fics are generally slah, although some of them can be read as gen without a problem, like Ciphers (http://www.lyricalmagic.com/ciphers.html) for example.
This is a story about language that I happened to *almost* read at the same time as I was writing Try Again (http://www.a2nz.org/tefnut/sg1_tryagain/sg1_tryagain_part1.html), which was *almost* about the same topic. Some things don't change!
I really like Destina's style and plots. I think you can read most of her stories even if you're not at all into slash -- but then, I might be wrong, because I appreciate a good slash.

My stories (ballyhoo! ballyhoo!) (http://www.a2nz.org/tefnut/fanfic_index.html) are mostly gen, except for some drabbles and a spoof. Although some of them can be read as slash... Bring your own subtext, you know? I'm more and more gen, because, although I can see the J/D "married couple" subtext, I'd like to explore more about their friendship, and the father-and-son relationship that glued me to the show to start with. The one I'm writing now will definitely be gen. And long. Painfully long.

Also, have you stumbled upon The Tablet (http://www.omnifera.com/tablet/index.htm) yet? Gen stories, mostly about Daniel. I like Jb's ones best, especially First Contact, Last Encounter (http://www.omnifera.com/tablet/stories/jb-site/fcle1.htm). That one blew my socks off. It's packed with action, madness and stress.

In acts of desperation, I have skimmed a slash fic or two (and really skimmed over the slashy parts). I enjoy their friendship much better. I have read just about everything on The Tablet and I highly recommend The Cell by Corby. It's a very WOW fic.

I can't wait to read your nice, long fic! (The longer the better...LOL!)

Oh yes, the Cell! Word on that.
And, I'm afraid you'll have to wait a little bit... Longer might be better, but it takes longer... ;)
